The UN Innovation and Technology Accelerator for Cities

To harness the potential of digital technologies for sustainable urban development, UN-Habitat, the UN Office for ICT (OICT) and HafenCity University are collaborating on the United Nations Innovation Technology Accelerator for Cities in Hamburg (UNITAC Hamburg).

The work focuses on the development and implementation of urban technologies that contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). At the interface between urbanization, innovation and technology, an interdisciplinary team works on applied research projects.

By combining different research methods, application-specific solutions are developed that exploit the potential of digital technologies and data to contribute to sustainable urban development, as called for by the UN-wide Sustainable Urbanization Strategy.

The solutions developed by UNITAC Hamburg will be tested and piloted in a network of partners from academia, the private sector, civil society and governmental institutions. The results are documented and published, e.g. as guidelines and toolkits. In this way, decision-makers in urban planning are also supported.

Please visit the UNITAC website or write an email to unitac@un.org for more information about the project.
