Michael Hathorn

Data Scientist

Michael recently completed an MSc in Urban Spatial Science at University College London through the Chevening Scholarship. The MSc focuses on applying quantitative methods and data science techniques to urban problems. Before undertaking this degree, he worked for the Western Cape Government Department of Environmental Affairs and Development Planning. The projects he worked on focused on spatial policy and inclusionary housing. He also has six years of experience working in the creative industry across content strategy and creation. He developed strong visual and written communications skills in a range of media, as well as the ability to lead and work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams. He is interested in applying the range of skills that he has developed to complex problems using both qualitative and quantitative inputs. In addition to his MSc, He holds a BA (Honours) in English Literature from Rhodes University, a Bachelor of City Planning (Honours) from the University of Cape Town, and a Master's in City and Regional Planning from the University of Cape Town.
