Mert Can Yilmaz

Urban Innovation Expert

Mert Can Yilmaz is an urban planner and designer with experience in both the public and private sectors, as well as academia. He holds M.Sc. in Resource Efficiency in Architecture and Planning (REAP) from HafenCity University Hamburg (HCU) in Hamburg, Germany, alongside an M.Sc. in Urban Design and B.Sc. in City and Regional Planning from the Middle East Technical University (METU) in Ankara, Turkey. He melds data analysis and visualisation within the social, spatial and environment context to advance community objectives. He was part of the research group Global Change and Spatial Strategies and worked in communications and on the applied research projects Participative Collaboration Multimedia (PaKOMM) and H2020-project Migrant Integration Cockpits and Dashboards (MICADO) at the City Science Lab at HafenCity University Hamburg (HCU). He has also worked as a UN-Habitat consultant for the UN Innovation Technology Accelerator for Cities (UNITAC), and engaged in freelance projects in design and communications. His research interests includes participation and collaboration in urban planning, with a keen focus on exploring the potential of digitalisation in fostering sustainable and resilient urban environments.
